The Coastal Texas Barbecue Trail makes it easy for anyone to find and try some of the best Texas barbecue while experiencing more than just the meat.
“Barbecue in the Coastal Bend is about more than the amazing brisket and ribs – it’s about a true Texas experience,” said Joel Novosad, Director of Explore Victoria. “This region is host to larger-than-life stories about where Texas started and these barbecue joints carry that history in their buildings and their multi-generational ownership. On top of that, the nearby historical locations like the Presidio La Bahía and the Museum of the Coastal Bend tell a story about Texas that’s hundreds and hundreds of years old.”
“The barbecue joints here are our secret; they represent some of the best-rated barbecue on review sites like Google, Yelp and TripAdvisor.” Four of the restaurants are rated as good as or better than the golden standards in Lockhart and Austin.
Stops on the barbecue trail include: Aunt Jo’s BBQ, KB’s BBQ, McMillan’s Bar-B-Q, Mumphord’s Place, Quality Packers Smokehouse, The Fire Pit, Uncle Mutt’s Bar-B-Que, the Presido La Bahía and the Museum of the Coastal Bend.
The Great Coastal Texas Barbecue Trail is a fun, inexpensive retreat to get immersed in Texas’ food history. People who go to at least three of the seven barbecue joints can redeem their receipts for a free Great Coastal Texas Barbecue Trail t-shirt at the Explore Victoria Visitor Center. The trail starts online at CoastalTexasBarbecue.com.

Everybody has their own secret, but there’s no secret to barbecue! You gotta do it with love; love what you do and do what you love.

Family Tradition [is why I started in the BBQ business] I spent a lot of time barbecuing for family reunions. Just knowing that people are expecting you to be there to serve them – it’s a pleasure to please them!!

I have always been interested in cooking and barbecue was a natural transition from owning a meat processing facility. My favorite part of making the barbecue for my customers is hearing and seeing their satisfaction.
